Briefing in the Embassy of Uzbekistan on the reforms of the leather, footwear and fur industry

On 6th of June 2018 in Uzbekistan Embassy in Russia was held a briefing on the topic "Uzbekistan. New prospects of trade, economic and investment cooperation in the framework of ongoing reforms in the leather, footwear and fur industry. "

 

Within the framework of the briefing, the implementation of the Decree of the Republic of Uzbekistan PP-3693 of May 3, 2018 "On measures to further stimulate the development and growth of the export potential of the leather, shoe and fur industries was discussed. In particular, issues related to the revival of Karakul breeding in Uzbekistan and the development of exports of Karakul skins and garments  were discussed. Now in the country about 1 million skins of Karakul are produced annually from more than 600 enterprises. There is a scientific and educational base for the training of light industry specialists, the production of finished products made of fur and leather is actively developing. It is planned to create in Uzbekistan a large hub for raw fur and leather on the territory of Central Asia.

It was noted a favorable investment climate in the Republic such as tax and customs privileges, protection of investors' rights, freely convertible currency, low interest rates (4.5%). One of the important goals is to restore the market of light industry with Russia.

During the event, the President of the RFU Sergey Stolbov met with the Chairman of the Uzbekistan Association "Uzcharmsanoat" Sardor Umarzakov. They discussed issues of cooperation between the RFU and Uzcharmsanoat in the development of the fur industry in two countries, the protection of the markets from counterfeit and smuggled products, the organization of shipments of Karakul skins to the Sojuzpushnina auction, the training of personnel for the industry, cooperation and accession of the Association of Uzbekistan to the International Fur Federation (IFF) and its representative office IFF-Eurasia, created on the basis of the RFU.
