On the 22nd of June 2017 in Irkutsk was held an international conference, timed to the Year of Ecology in Russia, on topic “Fur Harvesting in the 21st Century. Russia and the world. Conference was organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation with the support of the Russian Fur Union, auction company “Sojuzpushnina” and the International Fur Federation (IFF).
Conference was attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation, the Government of the Irkutsk Region, representatives of hunting, procurement and marketing organizations of the main fur-bearing regions of the Russian Federation, research institutes, the Russian Fur-fur Union, the auction company “Sojuzpushnina”, representatives from the United Kingdom, Canada, Turkey, China, Italy and Kazakhstan.
The conference discussed key issues of hunting, trapping, harvesting and implementation of fur, legislation issues, the state and the sustainable use of hunting resources, the problems of indigenous peoples of the north, the implementation of an agreement on international humane trapping standards, traps certification and other issues of international significance.
In the end of the conference was signed a Memorandum of Agreement between the Control Information and Analytic Center of Hunting Animals and Their Habitats of Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation and Fur Institute of Canada.
Within the framework of the conference, an excursion program with a visit to Lake Baikal was organized for the participants.
